How to choose your next place to work if you are a Data Professional

Over the past ten years, the job market for roles such as Data Scientists, Data Engineers, and ML Engineers has changed a lot. This article aims to provide a perspective to Data professionals so they can better navigate this continually evolving landscape and make better-informed decisions.

Large Corporations

Many large companies have now equipped themselves with structured teams of Data Scientists, Data Engineers, ML Engineers etc. The easiest and most valuable projects are already put in production, often the technology stack is already in place and new projects within these organizations are very fragmented among many contributors and Data professionals often work on tiny verticals. Moreover, there is a lot to do in terms of maintaining existing models, and sometimes time devoted to innovating and creating new products, services, and processes is limited with respect to the time devoted to handling business as usual.

Suggestion for Data Professionals considering working in a large corporation: first check how streamlined the decision-making process is and how much room there is for internal innovation.
